Hikers Assistant+ Now Available for Android & Apple iOS!

Hikers Assistant+ is an iPhone/iPad/watch and Android phone/tablet app for planning and executing day hikes to extended thru hikes.  Create routes and waypoints, and download maps and forecasts before you leave.  Then stay on your route and find your waypoints while on the trail.  Both off-trail (planning) and on-trail (hiking) modules have been optimized for efficiency and utility.  In addition to getting where you are going, Hikers Assistant+ will keep a record of your hikes, trail days, created tracks, and waypoints created on-trail.  Progress screen modules display distance, speed, steps, and elapsed time. If you are jogging, running, cycling, or paddling, you can use customized GPS filters to optimize saved data and battery use.  You can get the app on Apple's iTunes App Store or Google's Play Store today.  Learn more on our products page.

Trails at Guadalupe River State Park

Guadalupe River SP, TX

Just a few miles north of San Antonio, Guadalupe River State Park provides a surprisingly diverse set of hiking trails. The trails south of the Guadalupe River provide up to about a 5.8 mile moderately easy loop through both prairie and forested areas. The backcountry trails north of the River provide up to an 8 mile moderate loop through mostly forest. A great place for a short day hike.

Lake at Lost Maples SNA TX

Lost Maples SNA, TX

Lost Maples SNA is fairly unique in this part of Texas.  Most of the trails are in forested areas, with decent sized trees. There's a lake, and even several 200' climbs.  Backcountry campsites give you an opportunity to backpack on a couple of loops with over 10 miles of trail. This is probably the best over-nighter near San Antonio.

Vista at Hill Country SNA TX

Hill Country SNA, TX

Hill Country SNA really seems focused on supporting horseback riding and camping, although it's a decent day hike also, and has a backcountry campsite or two.  The terrain is rolling with lots of scrub trees.  Near the major trailheads, there are lots of confusing, inter-connected trails.  Overall, you'll get the impression of a very open, unshaded hike.

Crag Crest Trail

Crag Crest Trail, CO

A national scenic trail on Colorado's Grand Mesa, the Crag Crest Trail is an exhilerating 10 mile hike between about 10,500 and 11,200 ft elevation.  The northern half of the loop is along the narrow crest.  The south half passes through forests and lakes.  This is one fantastic day hike.
